1. HPhoenix College has lost one of its family members.  Felipe Robles Jr. tragically lost his life on Saturday, September 18, 2004. Felipe had worked in the Phoenix College Financial Aid Office for three years and before that in Veteran Services.  He made major contributions to the Financial Aid office.  He was instrumental in developing the Electronic Work-Study agreement process at Phoenix College.  His presence will be greatly missed by his colleagues and friends.

Services will be held at Resthaven Park Mortuary/Cemetery, 4323 East Southern Avenue in Phoenix.  Visitation will take place on Friday, September 24, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2004 at 10:00 a.m.  <>2.IIIIBetween now and October 4th, the Student Life and Leadership Office is sponsoring a voter registration drive. PC is working with student volunteers, student clubs, and a national nonpartisan group called the New Voters Project (http://www.newvotersproject.org/). The New Voters Project targets 18-24 year olds, but will also register new eligible voters of any age.

4. J Interim Dean of Instruction Casandra Kakar and Associate Dean of Instruction Sharon Halford were featured in the Sept. 17 edition of The Business Journal. Congratulations!

5.  Dee Dee Tapson is an employee of the District Human Resources Department and by using the professional development program, Creative Pathways, will be working in the Career Center for the Fall Semester.  She will be assisting with PC's Colleges On-line Job Service, http://www.collegecentral.com/phoenix.  Dee Dee will also be assisting in the implementation of the Career Work Experience Program that will begin in the Spring of 2005.  For additional information on either of these programs, please contact the Career Center at 602-285-7420.

6.  The first round of interviews for the position of Associate Dean of Technology will be completed this weekFollowing the interviews, the final candidates will be invited back to the campus for follow-up interviews and Open Forum meetings.  Hopefully, the new person will be on board before the Spring semester.  

The search process for the positions of Director of Maintenance & Operations and Executive Assistant to the President have not been initiated.

The president and the faculty senate president are in the process of outlining the structure of the search process for the Dean of Instruction position. 

7.  Over 100 Phoenix College and District employees and community members attended the President's Community Roundtable on September 20, 2004 on Phoenix College's Osborn campus.  

The event, titled "Showcase of Partnerships" included a keynote address by Michael Bassoff, President of the TGen Foundation who spoke about how his company has forged partnerships in order to carry its mission which is to bring hope to families with cancer, neurological disorders and diabetes. The workshops that followed centered on education, business and industry, healthcare, arts and entertainment and mass communications. As part of the workshops, participants were able to witness the variety of partnerships Phoenix College has established with other government and educational institutions, business and industry and community organizations.  Thank you to Interim Associate Dean of Continuing Education and Community Service Trino Sandoval and his staff for their excellent work.

              How will these bond monies be utilized?
These funds will be used to build new buildings containing classrooms, laboratories, and offices, refurbishing older buildings and facilities, parking lots and purchasing equipment, technology and land.
