1.
Congratulations to the Office of Institutional Advancement. They recently
captured a bronze Paragon Award for Brochure/Flyer Series 2004 at the
National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) national
conference for the college campus life and financial aid brochures. The
Paragon Awards recognize outstanding achievement in communications at
community, junior and technical colleges. It is the only national
competition of its kind to exclusively honor excellence among marketing
and PR professionals at two-year colleges.
NCMPR is an
affiliate council of the American Association of Community Colleges
(AACC). The organization is dedicated to fostering the professional
development of college communications staff in a variety of areas,
including marketing, public and media relations, community and alumni
relations, publications, enrollment management and special events
coordination.
2. Please inform your students that on Wednesday,
April 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phoenix College will host a career fair at
Sophomore Square. Currently, more than 40 employers have confirmed their
participation in a variety of areas including health care, business and
other related fields. Additionally, the Career Expo will provide
information on college programs and transfer opportunities. Students
should have their resumes ready!
3. Mayor Phil Gordon will speak on the future
of Phoenix on Wednesday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the
Bulpitt Auditorium. We are honored to host the new mayor and I
encourage the campus community to attend the event. Some of the
topics he will address will include: --The future of
public transportation over the next 50 years;
--Balancing economic growth with urban quality of
life; --Future changes
in cultural institutions; --Caring for our
urban environment; --Dealing with
air, soil and water pollution; --Future changes
in Phoenix's "natural" parks; and, --The future of
water usage. |

4. Students in the EMT/Fire Science Program
were busy with activities and testing over spring break. According
to EMT/Fire Science Department Chair, Dr. Kay Lewis, CPAT testing
went very well with the collaboration of GCC and our Capt. David
Sanchez overseeing the training of 325 students. Also, after five
days of intense preparation, the paramedic students successfully
completed the final practical testing (first round) with no
retests. |
