1. Please welcome Jacque Cline to the office of administrative services.  Jacque just recently became board approved and is now full time Facilities Technician.  She had served in the position as an OYO.

2. Through the Strategic Planning process the Facilities Improvement Initiative Team identified an action item to address the parking problem at Phoenix College. The problem is compounded by the shortfall of parking spaces at prime times on campus.  The committee was charged with the task of identifying recommendations to meet the needs of the campus community.

One of the recommendations was to regulate spaces already in existence, thus the construction in the Dalby parking lot, which will be electronically controlled.

Any faculty, or staff with one of the new employee ID cards will be able to access this lot.

The parking lot should be available for open parking by the beginning of the Fall semester.  The activation of the gates will take place during the semester to allow adequate time for employees to acquire their ID cards.

3.  Five Phoenix College softball players will move on to the next level and play at four-year institutions next semester. These athletes were awarded scholarships for their athletic ability and academic success.

The following five athletes have received scholarships to play at four-year schools. They include:

They were truly some of the best players Phoenix College has had and I am very proud of them. I have been blessed to have the opportunity to work with them.”

4. Since 2002, Phoenix College ACE has partnered with the Phoenix College Alumni Association (PCAA) to develop and implement PM2 (Personal Money Management), a tool to enhance students' ACE experience with knowledge and information on financial literacy.  The goals of this award winning program, which has been recognized nationally by CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education), include:

  • Raising awareness about basic financial literacy
  • Instilling in students and parents the importance of developing personal money management skills
  • Learning how to apply personal money management skills to help fund a college education
We have just learned that Phoenix College has just been awarded an $18,000 grant from the American Express Corporation to continue
the PM2  Program for the next three years!  Special thanks to American Express, the PCAA and Half-Century Club Boards of Directors and PC alumna Joellen Lynn for their support in helping land this wonderful opportunity. Kudos to the PC ACE volunteers, faculty and staff for building an excellent program

5. Thank you for your efforts to conserve energy.  An e-mail will be issued soon containing information to help us respond to the rolling blackouts if they should occur in our area.

6.  "Prop 401 Question of the Week"

How do I know the money will be spent to really serve the students and citizens? By law, funds will be used to increase classroom and laboratory space, expand libraries, remodel aging and obsolete campus facilities, implement energy efficiency measures, renovate instructional space, purchase land, improve security of buildings, maintain parking lots and for other capital needs.  No operational costs of faculty or staff - no salaries - are included in this plan.
