1.  The Phoenix College Black Student Union (BSU) celebrated the start of Black History Month with a Kick-off Festival on Wednesday.  The student organization has scheduled a series of events for the campus community to enjoy.  If you need more information, please call 285-7365.

2.  A special congratulations goes out to Casandra Kakar, Associate Dean of Custom Training Education, for successfully completing the Academy for Leadership and Development on Jan. 20, 2004.

3.  Dr. Albert Celoza,  Chair of  the Liberal Arts Department,  was interviewed about the primary election on CNN.  You are a true ambassador of Phoenix College.

4.  The PC College Strategic Planning Council charged the Climate Survey Team with selecting an employee survey, and then overseeing its administration on campus.  First, the Team organized a Request for Proposals, and is currently reviewing submissions from firms that would like to conduct our climate survey.  Within the next few weeks, the Team will select a firm from among the applicants, and will then be communicating the details of the survey process to the campus.  The Team plans to have the survey administered later this semester.  Watch for more to come from this rapidly developing project.  If you have any questions, please contact one of the Team co-chairs, Scott Geddis (57175) or Jeremy Moreland (57113).

5.  Phoenix College will be one of several sites hosting College Goal Sunday 2004 on Sunday, February 8th. This annual event  is a great opportunity for college-bound students and their families to get expert and free advice to help them complete the federal financial aid application known as the FAFSA or Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  At Phoenix College, this event will take place at the Hannelly Center beginning at 2:00 p.m. Please promote this event and advise attendees that they need to bring their 2003 income data so that staff can provide optimum assistance.  For more information, including additional locations, please visit www.collegegoalsunday.com or call 1-877-997-8300.

6.  I would like to thank everyone involved in the preparation of the campus and facilities for the recent visit by Senator Kerry which generated excellent publicity for the college.  Phoenix College benefited by having 2000 attendees.
