1.  I am pleased to announce that the winner of the Phoenix College Innovation of the Year for 2003-2004 is the Alumni Association & ACE Collaboration. This submission will be our entry in the League for Innovation and MCCCD Paul Pair Innovation Award competition to be decided in April. The presidents of the college employee groups had a tough decision, and wish to congratulate the other PC finalists:  The International Story Share Festival and The New ADA-Modified College Van.

Wish best of luck in April to Frank Luna, Queta Chavez, Monica Castenada, Fred Amador, and the enthusiastic team of Alumni
volunteers as they vie for the $2000 prize that goes to further the winning innovation.

2. Congratulations to Phoenix College students, Gileaña Reheem and Christine Bryant. They were among an elite group of 65 students from 19 Arizona Community Colleges to be selected to the 2004 All-Arizona Academic Team. Gileaña was placed on All-Arizona Academic First Team and Christine was placed on Third Team. Great work Gileaña and Christine!

3. I would like to congratulate Gerontology student, Cora McMiller on her interview with TV 3. Cora was interviewed about her recent move to re-career from management to gerontology. She is a true ambassador for Phoenix College and I would like to thank her for her commitment and dedication to the Gerontology program. We are proud to have you on our campus!

4. Rose Pfefferbaum, Gerontology and Terrorism and Disaster Preparedness, is collaborating with the Terrorism and Disaster Branch (TDB) of the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress. Rose joins a select group of clinicians and educators from across the country working to promote the well being of children and families by strengthening our nation's preparedness and response to terrorism and disaster. TDB is committed to achieving an effective, nationwide mental health response to the dangers and consequences of terrorism and disaster. Among its objectives, TDB seeks to establish collaborative partnerships at federal, state, and local levels that facilitate development and adoption of the best practices of interventions, treatments, and services and to improve access to care.

5. Our award-winning Alumni Association is currently seeking nominations for its Board of Directors. Graduates and former attendees of Phoenix College are eligible to serve on the Board during a two-year term. Members of the Board attend quarterly meetings on campus and participate on a committee of their choice, which includes the Hall of Fame committee, Scholarship committee or the Fundraising committee. By serving on the Board, alumni have an opportunity to truly take an active leadership role in the association and Phoenix College. Please send your nominations to Frank Luna by April 19.

Additionally, the PCAA raised more than $40,000 through its annual scholarship fundraising campaign last year. In 2004, they won a prestigious award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) for their partnership with the PC ACE program.
