1.  Congratulations to Dr. Albert Celoza and the Phoenix College Model United Nations Team for being selected as the Best Delegation at the November Model UN Conference in Chicago.  This award is given to a college by conference participants of 2,000 students from a number of colleges and universities.  Reed Mettler and Saulo Alvarado were awarded Outstanding Delegation in the General Assembly and Henry Alzate was featured in the Conference newspaper.

2.  Phoenix College shortstop, Chelsie Mesa and pitcher, Rachael Schwartz recently received full scholarships to well-known universities. Chelsie committed to the top-ranked University of Arizona softball program and Rachael signed with the Southeastern Louisiana University program. Congratulations!

3.
Service Excellence committee members presented Aramark manager,  Barbara Bruno and staff a certificate and cake recognizing their exemplary service to the campus over the past semester.  Staff recognition is part of service excellence initiatives.  If you have someone you would like to recognize, please submit their name/s to Elena Hernandez or Cecilia Quiroz-Vasquez stating why and what way you would like to recognize them.

4.  PC faculty, Milas Yoes, has received acclaim from the Department of Jazz and Improvisational Music at Lawrence University.  Mr. Yoes worked with middle and high school ensembles in jazz ensemble, improvisation, and aural training master classes at the 24th annual Lawrence University Jazz Celebration on November 12th and 13th.

5.  The American Association of Community Colleges has selected PC alumna and author, Stella Pope Duarte, to receive the 2005 Outstanding Alumni Award.  This award is given annually to former students from community colleges who are making outstanding contributions in their chosen career fields and to their communities.

6.   The initial meeting of administrators, faculty, staff, and students was held recently to discuss steps needed to revive the PC student newspaper.  This effort was initiated based on two driving forces, 1) student interest and 2) the proposed downtown Phoenix relocation of ASU's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.  Faculty and MAT members of this group are Camilla Westenberg, Jeff Eldot, Roman Reyes, Pete Dimas, Kelly Loucy and Morris Johnson.  Student representatives have also been included.

7.  A big "Thank You" goes out to Dr. Joseph Kimbuende for his dedication and commitment to the English Department's adopt a family project.  All of the families adopted are refugees just arriving from various countries in Africa; additionally, at least one member of the adopted family is a student at Phoenix College.  Dr. Kimbuende states that the project would not be possible without the donations from many PC faculty and staff, and the help of many volunteers, especially Pam Rogers, English/E.S.L., and Miguel Fernandez, English.
