1. Two new parking solutions are being introduce this fall.  First, the Dalby/Administration parking lot will become access controlled.  Anyone who was previously eligible for an employee parking sticker in the past can park there.  In order to activate the gate the employee must obtain a Phoenix College Employee I.D. card.  The card is available at the Technology Support Group Help Desk in the "D" Building.  The gate will not be activated until everyone has had ample time to obtain an I.D.

The second big change is the addition of the temporary overflow student parking at the South end of the athletic practice fields.  Access to this new parking area will be through the "astronomy lot" that runs along 15th Ave.  Please inform students where the additional parking can be found.

2. Congratulations to Jeffrey Eldot!  He is the 2004-2005 Phoenix College Faculty In Progress Program (FIPP) faculty intern.  Eldot will teach English as a Second Language (ESL) and Dr. Nancy Matte (English) will serve as his mentor.

The ten faculty interns selected to serve throughout the 2004-2005 term were chosen from a pool of 228 applicants that resulted from a national search. FIPP is a nine month internship designed to provide teaching experience, mentorship and professional growth opportunities that result in knowledge and skills necessary to better prepare candidates to seek competitive employment in a residential teaching position at Maricopa.  The focus of the program is on learning the multiple roles of faculty in the community college. For information about FIPP go to: http://www.mcli.district.maricopa.edu/fipp/index.php.

3.  Faculty member Don Richardson (English) was one of a group of eight men comprising the Men’s Ensemble from the First United Methodist Church who sang the National Anthem prior to the Phoenix Diamondbacks’ baseball game August 7.

4.  Starting immediately, Dr. Trino Sandoval (Foreign Language) will be serving as the new interim Associate Dean of Continuing Education and Community Service.  During this time Dr. Virginia Foster will return to her role as Department Chair (Foreign Language) and Fabio Correa will be taking over his teaching duties.  Congratulations, Trino and thank you to Dr. Sandoval, Dr. Foster, and Mr. Correa for accepting these responsibilities.

If you would like to volunteer to assist students that morning, please call x-57771.

"Prop 401 Question of the Week"

What new technology will be acquired?

Some equipment becomes outdated in a few years due to rapidly changing workplace technology and must be replaced if we are to instruct students with tools now being used in the workplace. These funds will allow us to acquire new equipment in areas such as chemistry, allied health, biotechnology and other areas.

Corrections to August 9, 2004 Bulletin:
Apologies go out to Marlene Strickland and Miguel A. Hernandez for the misspelling of their names.
