  6. BIRTHDAY CORNER

1Marian Gibney has agreed to be the co-chair for HLC/NCA along with Brent Jameson. Thank you Dr. Gibney for agreeing to serve in this important capacity.

2. Suzanne Vande Putte, faculty member in the Nursing Department, worked with the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) in the division of Hospital and Community Preparedness and Response this past year. The division is responsible for distribution of funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Health Resources and Services Administration branch (HRSA). Each hospital in the state of Arizona that participated in this grant  was eligible for funds. They qualified if they had an active Emergency Department.  An assessment of each of the 68 hospitals was done prior to her sabbatical in which questions about their disaster preparedness and plans for a mass casualty incident were addressed. Suzanne traveled the entire state of Arizona teaching hospital personnel and attended "area" meetings.   Suzanne was involved in teaching each hospital in the state of AZ how to use their decontamination shelter for disaster planning.  A nursing coalition has identified educational competencies for registered nurses responding to a mass casualty incident. She presented the concepts of this coalition in an attempt to get each of the MCCD nursing departments ready to teach disaster preparedness in the curricula.

3. “Prop 401 Question of the Week”
