Second Annual Ursa Award nominations are now being accepted for the 2nd Annual Ursa Leadership Awards Program.  Ursa is the Latin word for bear and is reflected in the heavens by constellations of Ursa Major, the Great Bear, and Ursa Minor, the Little Bear, commonly known as the big and little dippers.  The Ursa Awards are held to recognize and celebrate our “Bear Stars,” the student leaders of Phoenix College.

Any Phoenix College employee may nominate a student from either the Fall 2003 or Spring 2004 semester and Phoenix College will celebrate the Ursa Awards during an awards ceremony on May 6.   All nominations are due to Kelly Loucy, Student Life and Leadership no later than Wednesday, April 21 by 5 p.m.  For more information on the awards program or to nominate a student, please call 602-285-7230.

2. Learn about NCA/HLC and enjoy some ice cream.  Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the NCA/HLC Self-Study Ice Cream Social/Open House on Tuesday, April 20.  The open house is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the North/South Staff Dining room.

Faculty, staff and students are invited and encouraged to come and get information on the self-study and talk with our Criterion Chairs about their specific areas of involvement.  You will also have the opportunity to give needed input to the process.  Prizes will also be given away.

7. Phoenix College's Legal Assisting Program hosted the fourth annual Paralegal Career Day in conjunction with the Maricopa County Bar Association's Paralegal Division.  This event has been held for the last four years at PC and this year was the most successful to date, with over 90 students attending.  Thanks to Karen Potts, OYO faculty member; Mary Davison, Department Secretary, and; Jennifer Salisbury, Legal Studies Advisor, Facilities, Safety, Chef Scott, and Media Services for making this event such a huge success.  It is no wonder that the directors from the other ABA-Approved Paralegal Programs in Phoenix acknowledge PC as "the program to model after."

8.  Congratulations to PC student winners of the 2004 Outstanding Music Performers Competition:

  • Suzanne Bracker, Second Place in Composition
