Whenever
Phoenix' Chris McGee is on the pitching mound, the Lady Bears have
a big advantage over their opponent. McGee is one of three Phoenix
pitchers with double figure wins at 16-5 and an ERA of under 2.00.
The Lady Bears currently sit in first place among Division 2 teams
in the ACCAC and are ranked third nationally by the NJCAA.
McGee, a sophomore from Trevor Browne High School, has been greatly
helped in the circle by fellow Trevor Browne alum and now Phoenix
teammate Sonia Medina.
"My catcher (Medina) is my best friend and we have played
together for many years, so when she decided to go to Phoenix College,
so did I", said McGee.
When McGee got to Phoenix, Coach Heinz Mueller had to get her to
believe in herself. "Coach got me to not think as much and
trust what I can do," said McGee.
While McGee has found success on the softball diamond, she has
proven to be equally successful in the classroom. She currently
is logging a 3.65 grade point average in Elementary Education. McGee
is looking to further her softball career and her education at a
four year college and is currently being recruited by Troy State,
Baker University, and Grand Canyon.
When McGee leaves Phoenix College, she will take with her many
team awards. However, the thing she said she will most remember
is the togetherness of the team. "I'll miss all the fun I have
had," said McGee. "I have never gotten along with teammates
so well. It's like having a group of sisters without the fighting."
