PC Softball Captures Another National Championship

Phoenix College's softball program won its fifth NJCAA Division II National Championship and second consecutive title with a 6-5 victory over Parkland College (IL). After battling to a tie game through regulation., the Bears' Jackie Arnold connected for a pinch hit single to score Jessica Sheldon and give PC the victory.

Sheldon opened the inning with a single and advance to second on a sacrafice bunt by Stacy Trevino before scoring on Arnold's clutch hit.

Denise Leon had two doubles and three RBI to lead PC at the plate in the title contest. Pitcher Roxanne Bejarano lasted six innings, posting seven strikeouts and allowing just one earned run. Bethney Renoldson earned the victory in relief by pitching the final two frames. Renoldson did not allow a baserunner in the final two innings. In the tournament, the PC pitching staff allowed just one earned run and no
walks while striking out 27.
