Mesa Selected NJCAA Division
2 Tournament MVP Freshman shortstop
Chelsie Mesa earned the NJCAA Division 2 Tournament Most Valuable Player
honor after her two-run homer in the deciding game gave Phoenix College
the 2004 National Championship. Mesa was joined on the All-Tournament
team by four of her teammates. 2004

Phoenix College Softball Captures
Fourth NJCAA National Championship For
the fourth time in the program's history, Phoenix College has earned
the NJCAA Division 2 National Championship. The Bears fought out of
the consolation bracket to defeat St. Louis (MO) Community College-Meramec
2-1 to capture the crown. While Rachel Schwartz and Ramie Garcia hurled
a four hitter, freshman slugger Chelsie Mesa belted a two-run homer
in the sixth inning to give the Bears the title. Championship

Bears in NJCAA D2 Title Game
Showdown Phoenix' softball squad
has battled from the consolation bracket to force a deciding Championship
game against St. Louis (MO) Community College-Meramec. After falling
1-0 to Wallace CC-Dothan (AL), the Bears reeled off three victories
to set up a final deciding game for the NJCAA Division 2 National Championship.
Phoenix defeated Lansing 8-0 and Wallace-Dothan 10-1 to reach the finals.
The Bears defeated SLCC-Meramec 4-0 in the opening game to hand the

Phoenix Rolls to Pair of Victories
at NJCAA Championship Tourney PC's
Lady Bears opened the NJCAA Division II National Championship in Fort
Dodge, Iowa, with a 10-0 victory over Cuyahoga CC (OH). Phoenix then
handed Lansing (MI) CC its first loss of the season in 36 outings by
a score of 4-0. The Lady Bears will face Wallace CC-Dothan (AL) at 10:00

Delane Oscarson Selected First
Team Big South All-Conference Former
Phoenix Bear Delane Oscarson, now playing for NCAA Division I Coastal
Carolina University, earned First Team Big South All-Conference honors
on Wednesday. Oscarson is second for the Lady Chanticleers and fifth
in the Conference with a .337 batting average. She also has 13 stolen
bases to lead the team and has committed just one error in starting

Bears Capture NJCAA Region I
Championship Phoenix captured the
2004 NJCAA Region I Division 2 Championship with a 9-1 victory over
Mesa CC. Bears' freshmen Ashley Bray and Chelsie Mesa led the way as
they hit a combined 8-for-8 with five RBI, five runs scored, a double

Bears Club Mesa, Move into Finals
Phoenix advanced into the Championship
game of the NJCAA Region I Division 2 Tournament with an 11-0 victory
over Mesa. The Bears scored seven runs in the first inning and never
looked back. Kortney Hall blasted a homer in the second inning and Erika
Valero made Mesa pay for walking PC freshman slugger Chelsea Mesa. After
intentionally walking Chelsea twice, Mesa watched as Valero connected

on Tuesday and received a wake-up call as the Bears fell 5-1 and 2-1

College Softball Ranked #1 in NJCAA Division II National Poll
The
Bears softball squad, ranked fourth in the preseason national poll,
has jumped to the top spot in the first NJCAA Division II poll since
the start of the regular season. The Bears, 41-8 overall and 22-6 in
the ACCAC, are one of three Conference schools in the Division II poll.

Bray and Erika Valero recorded a pair of hits each in a 4-1 game one

3-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBI to lead PC to a 7-3 win.

Softball Sweeps ACCAC Foe Chandler-Gilbert
The
Lady Bears' softball train just keeps chugging along in the ACCAC, recording
2-0 and 8-0 shutout victories over Chandler-Gilbert to improve to 18-4
in Conference play and 37-6 overall. Ramie Garcia pitched a two-hitter
in the opener and Chelsie Mesa and Samantha Zadel took care of the offense
as each went 2-for-3. In game two, Mesa went 2-for-3 with two RBI, the
Bears pounded out six doubles, stole six bases and Rachael Schwartz

Bears Again Go 8-1 in a Tourney, Fall to Pima in Finale
PC
eased its way through the first eight games of the Central Arizona Tournament
by outscoring its opposition 51-10. The title game of the tournament
was taken by Pima as the NJCAA's top-ranked Division I team beat the
Bears, ranked 4th in NJCAA Division II, 6-0. CAC

The
Lady Bears pulled out the entire arsenal in this ACCAC doubleheader
sweep. In game one, PC pounded out 12 hits, swiped 10 bases, and looked
on as Ramie Garcia allowed just one hit and struck out nine in a 9-0
shutout victory. Game two saw much of the same as Kortny Hall hit a
pair of doubles and had two RBI to lead the offense and Rachel Schwartz
struck out nine in route to a 4-2 win. Game

The
Bears won their first eight games in the MCCD Tournament before falling
1-0 to Pima in the tourney's finale. In the loss, Phoenix outhit Pima

The
PC softball squad quickly got back onto the winning track with a 4-0
and 9-0 sweep of a doubleheader against South Mountain on Saturday.
Corri Long had a pair of RBI in the opener to support Ramie Garcia's
10 strikeout, two-hit performance in the pitching circle. In game two,
it was freshman slugger Chelsie Mesa leading the offense with a 3-for-4
game at the plat with four RBI. While Mesa was taking care of the offense,
fellow freshman Rachael Schwartz hurled a perfect 5-inning game by allowing

The
Bears battled Pima tough but came up on the short end twice to the top-ranked
NJCAA Division I team in the Nation. Jessica Sheldon's 3-for-3 performance
at the plate in the opener was overshadowed by a 6-4 loss, while Rachael
Schwartz battled tough and struck out six in a 3-1 loss in the nightcap.

PC Bears softball squad, ranked 4th nationally in the NJCAA, moved to
7-0 overall and 2-0 in the ACCAC with 2-1 and 8-0 victories on tyhe
road at Chandler-Gilbert. Ramie Garcia improved to 3-0 on the young
season as the winning pitcher in the opener, allowing just three hits
while striking out four. Rachael Schwartz matched her teammate in the
second game, improving to 4-0 with a seven-strikeout performance. Schwartz,
who has won each game via shutout, allowed just four hits. Freshman
slugger Chelsie Mesa added a triple to her three homeruns hit in the

Ends with Split at Grand Canyon
The
Phoenix College softball squad completed the 2004 preseason schedule
with a split at Grand Canyon University. The Bears took game one 4-2
before falling 2-0 in the nightcap. With the preseason out of the way,
PC begins the 2004 regular season at the Arizona Western Shootout on
February 6.

Battle Tough at #3 Arizona & #19 Arizona State
The
Lady Bears softball squad got in some early practice games against some
of the NCAA Division I's top programs. The #3 ranked Wildcats defeated
Phoenix College 14-0 and 6-0. PC battled back and took Arizona State
into extra innings before falling 2-1 in nine innings to the Sundevils.
The preseason exhibition schedule ends when the Lady Bears travel to
Grand Canyon on February 3 for games at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
