Mesa Selected NJCAA Division 2 Tournament MVP — Freshman shortstop Chelsie Mesa earned the NJCAA Division 2 Tournament Most Valuable Player honor after her two-run homer in the deciding game gave Phoenix College the 2004 National Championship. Phoenix College Softball Captures Fourth NJCAA National Championship — For the fourth time in the program's history, Phoenix College has earned the NJCAA Division 2 National Championship. The Bears fought out of the consolation bracket to defeat St. Louis (MO) Community College-Meramec 2-1 to capture the crown. While Rachel Schwartz and Ramie Garcia hurled a four hitter, freshman slugger Chelsie Mesa belted a two-run homer in the sixth inning to give the Bears the title. Bears in NJCAA D2 Title Game Showdown — Phoenix' softball squad has battled from the consolation bracket to force a deciding Championship game against St. Louis (MO) Community College-Meramec. After falling 1-0 to Wallace CC-Dothan (AL), the Bears reeled off three victories to set up a final deciding game for the NJCAA Division 2 National Championship. Phoenix defeated Lansing 8-0 and Wallace-Dothan 10-1 to reach the finals. The Bears defeated SLCC-Meramec 4-0 in the opening game to hand the Magic their first loss in the double-elimination tournament. Phoenix Rolls to Pair of Victories at NJCAA Championship Tourney — PC's Lady Bears opened the NJCAA Division II National Championship in Fort Dodge, Iowa, with a 10-0 victory over Cuyahoga CC (OH). Phoenix then handed Lansing (MI) CC its first loss of the season in 36 outings by a score of 4-0. The Lady Bears will face Wallace CC-Dothan (AL) at 10:00 a.m. (CST) on Friday. Delane Oscarson Selected First Team Big South All-Conference — Former Phoenix Bear Delane Oscarson, now playing for NCAA Division I Coastal Carolina University, earned First Team Big South All-Conference honors on Wednesday. Oscarson is second for the Lady Chanticleers and fifth in the Conference with a .337 batting average. Bears Capture NJCAA Region I Championship — Phoenix captured the 2004 NJCAA Region I Division 2 Championship with a 9-1 victory over Mesa CC. Bears' freshmen Ashley Bray and Chelsie Mesa led the way as they hit a combined 8-for-8 with five RBI, five runs scored, a double and a homerun. Boxscore

Bears Club Mesa, Move into Finals — Phoenix advanced into the Championship game of the NJCAA Region I Division 2 Tournament with an 11-0 victory over Mesa. The Bears scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back. Kortney Hall blasted a homer in the second inning and Erika Valero made Mesa pay for walking PC freshman slugger Chelsea Mesa. After intentionally walking Chelsea twice, Mesa watched as Valero connected for a pair of hits and three RBI. Boxscore

Garcia Hurls PC to First Round Victory — Ramie Garcia allowed just one earned run and three hits as the top-seeded Bears defeated Chandler-Gilbert 3-2 in the opening round of the 2004 NJCAA Region I Division 2 Softball Championships. Boxscore

PC Softball Garners 4 All-Americans, 8 All-Region, and 7 All-Conference Awards — The record setting 2004 Phoenix College softball squad has filled the trophy case with All-American, All-Region and All-Conference trophies. Record Regular Season Closes for Bears — The 2004 PC softball squad completed the regular season with a program best 51-10 record after defeating South Mountain 15-1 and 10-1. Arizona Western Shocks Bears...Twice — Phoenix travelled to Arizona Western on Tuesday and received a wake-up call as the Bears fell 5-1 and 2-1 to the Matadors. Bears Top Central Arizona 1-0 and 8-3
Each team got just three hits in the opener, but Phoenix' Ashley Bray tallied the game's only run and Ramie Garcia walked none while striking out six. Game two was a different story as the Bears pounded out 13 hits and stole six bases in route to the victory. Game 1 | Game 2

Phoenix College Softball Ranked #1 in NJCAA Division II National Poll
The Bears softball squad, ranked fourth in the preseason national poll, has jumped to the top spot in the first NJCAA Division II poll since the start of the regular season. Martinez Leads PC Softball to Sweep of Eastern Arizona

Phoenix College's softball squad has postponed its game at South Mountain, which was to take place on April 3rd, due to rain. The squads will square off on April 29 at 12:00 p.m.

DI #3 Pima Sweeps DII #4 Phoenix
Pima, ranked #3 in NJCAA Division I, scored 6-2 and 5-2 victories over the NJCAA Division II's 4th ranked Phoenix Bears. Game 1 | Game 2

Lady Bears Roll On, Sweep Glendale in ACCAC Tilt
Ramie Garcia allowed just three hits to Glendale, while Chelsie Mesa, Ashley Bray and Erika Valero recorded a pair of hits each in a 4-1 game one victory. Chelsie Mesa continued her hot hitting into game two by going 3-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBI to lead PC to a 7-3 win. Game 1 | Game 2

PC Softball Sweeps ACCAC Foe Chandler-Gilbert
The Lady Bears' softball train just keeps chugging along in the ACCAC, recording 2-0 and 8-0 shutout victories over Chandler-Gilbert to improve to 18-4 in Conference play and 37-6 overall. Ramie Garcia pitched a two-hitter in the opener and Chelsie Mesa and Samantha Zadel took care of the offense as each went 2-for-3. In game two, Mesa went 2-for-3 with two RBI, the Bears pounded out six doubles, stole six bases and Rachael Schwartz allowed just three hits in pitching another victory. Game 1 | Game 2

Lady Bears Again Go 8-1 in a Tourney, Fall to Pima in Finale
PC eased its way through the first eight games of the Central Arizona Tournament by outscoring its opposition 51-10. The title game of the tournament was taken by Pima as the NJCAA's top-ranked Division I team beat the Bears, ranked 4th in NJCAA Division II, 6-0. CAC Tourney Results

Phoenix College is Complete in Sweep of Paradise Valley
The Lady Bears pulled out the entire arsenal in this ACCAC doubleheader sweep. In game one, PC pounded out 12 hits, swiped 10 bases, and looked on as Ramie Garcia allowed just one hit and struck out nine in a 9-0 shutout victory. Game two saw much of the same as Kortny Hall hit a pair of doubles and had two RBI to lead the offense and Rachel Schwartz struck out nine in route to a 4-2 win. Game 1 | Game 2

Lady Bears Post Top Performances in Winning 8-of-9 at MCCD Tournament
The Bears won their first eight games in the MCCD Tournament before falling 1-0 to Pima in the tourney's finale. In the loss, Phoenix outhit Pima 4-2 but could not get across the plate. MCCD Tourney Results

Hitting, No-Hit Pitching Lead Phoenix to Doubleheader Sweep
Freshman slugger went 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of RBI to lead a 12-hit attack that led the Bears to a 10-2 victory over Arizona Western in the opener. In the nightcap, Rachel Schwartz pitched a no-hitter and defeated Arizona Western 6-0. Game 1 | Game 2

Nationally Ranked PC & Central Arizona Split Doubleheader
The Bears, ranked fourth in Division II, defeated the NJCAA Division I's third ranked Central Arizona 5-3 in the opener before falling 5-0 in game two. In the PC victory, it was Janette Martinez' homerun and four RBI that fuelded the victory. Game 1 | Game 2

Pitchers Ramie Garcia and Rachael Schwartz continued their outstanding performances on the season with 4-0 and 12-0 shutout victories over Eastern Arizona. Game 1 | Game 2

Phoenix Softball Shuts Out South Mountain Twice
The PC softball squad quickly got back onto the winning track with a 4-0 and 9-0 sweep of a doubleheader against South Mountain on Saturday. Corri Long had a pair of RBI in the opener to support Ramie Garcia's 10 strikeout, two-hit performance in the pitching circle. In game two, it was freshman slugger Chelsie Mesa leading the offense with a 3-for-4 game at the plat with four RBI. While Mesa was taking care of the offense, fellow freshman Rachael Schwartz hurled a perfect 5-inning game by allowing no hits and striking out seven. Game 1 | Game 2

PC Softball Falls Twice to Nation's Top NJCAA DI Team
The Bears battled Pima tough but came up on the short end twice to the top-ranked NJCAA Division I team in the Nation. Jessica Sheldon's 3-for-3 performance at the plate in the opener was overshadowed by a 6-4 loss, while Rachael Schwartz battled tough and struck out six in a 3-1 loss in the nightcap. Bears Top Glendale in Opener, Fall for First Time in Game #2
Ramie Garcia improved to 4-0 in the pitching circle as she allowed seven hits and struck out three in a 2-1 PC victory in the opener of this ACCAC doubleheader. Glendale then scored a 3-2 victory to hand the Bears their first loss in nine games on the season. Rachael Schwartz, the hard-luck loser in game two, struck out nine Glendale batters. 4th Ranked Bears Start ACCAC Play with Road Sweep of Chandler Gilbert
The PC Bears softball squad, ranked 4th nationally in the NJCAA, moved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the ACCAC with 2-1 and 8-0 victories on tyhe road at Chandler-Gilbert. Ramie Garcia improved to 3-0 on the young season as the winning pitcher in the opener, allowing just three hits while striking out four. Rachael Schwartz matched her teammate in the second game, improving to 4-0 with a seven-strikeout performance. Schwartz, who has won each game via shutout, allowed just four hits. Bears Perfect at Arizona Western Shootout

Preseason Ends with Split at Grand Canyon
The Phoenix College softball squad completed the 2004 preseason schedule with a split at Grand Canyon University. The Bears took game one 4-2 before falling 2-0 in the nightcap. With the preseason out of the way, PC begins the 2004 regular season at the Arizona Western Shootout on February 6.

Bears Battle Tough at #3 Arizona & #19 Arizona State
The Lady Bears softball squad got in some early practice games against some of the NCAA Division I's top programs. The #3 ranked Wildcats defeated Phoenix College 14-0 and 6-0. PC battled back and took Arizona State into extra innings before falling 2-1 in nine innings to the Sundevils. The preseason exhibition schedule ends when the Lady Bears travel to Grand Canyon on February 3 for games at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
