Women's Soccer
Last Line of Defense: There are few certainties in life; however, for Phoenix College Women's Soccer Coach Morgan Lee, writing Kim Eastin's name on his lineup card at the keeper position is one of them. Eastin has started every game for the Lady Bears this season, and she was the starting keeper last season, but she is more than "The last line of defense," Eastin is one of five Presidential Scholars on the women's soccer team. Eastin, who attended Sunnyslope High School, earned her Presidential Scholarship by finishing in the top 10 percent of her graduating class, and currently holds a 3.8 G.P.A., while studying Pre-Law. She is the true definition of a scholar-athlete. However, her journey to Phoenix College almost never happened. "I received an offer from Paradise Valley right out of high school, and I was going to go there," said Eastin. But unknown to Eastin, Lee had just taken over the Lady Bear's soccer program. "I found a piece of paper with Kim's name and number on it, and I decided to call," said Lee. "The phone call impressed Eastin enough to come with her father to visit Phoenix College. "We talked for about an hour, and I liked him as a coach and as a person, and I really wanted to play for him," added Eastin. While she is not stopping the opponents shots on the soccer field, Eastin takes classes like, Marine Biology, Law, Psychology and Business Management. She gives a lot of credit to her professors. "I love the classes here, they are small enough and you get a lot of one on one with the professors. "They are very helpful in making up exams if you miss a class," said Easton. With her second and final season at Phoenix College winding down, Eastin is looking at playing at the next level. Two of her choices include Sonoma State and Grand Canyon. However, she will take with her the positive experiences from her time at Phoenix College. "I will remember how Coach Lee turned me into the player I am today, by continually giving me confidence and support, and helping me fine tune my skills," said Eastin. Eastin aspires to be a paralegal someday, and thanks to her experiences with Phoenix College soccer, she has the drive and determination to achieve her goal.
