After four consecutive losing seasons, the Phoenix College men's soccer team has turned to one of its own.

Former Phoenix College player David Cameron has replaced Donny Deutsch as head coach. Cameron worked as an assistant at Phoenix College the past three seasons, when the Bears compiled a 6-47-1 record, failing to finish higher than ninth in the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference.

Phoenix College went 3-15 last year, losing its final eight games. The Bears return 15 players this year, losing sophomore defender Thomas Owens and sophomore goalkeeper Obed Escalante.

Cameron played at Shadow Mountain High School before going to Phoenix College, where he earned All-America honors two straight seasons. He finished his collegiate career at Loyola Marymount University, then played for several professional teams, including the Arizona Sahuaros, the now-defunct Arizona Sandsharks and the now-defunct Arizona Thunder. He plays for the Arizona Storm pro soccer team.

In addition to coaching at Phoenix College, Cameron spent the past three seasons as coach of the Avondale Agua Fria boys soccer team. He has also coached at Shadow Mountain.
