Awsome Day of
Track & Field
for PC at the Mesa Classic Phoenix College's track and field teams displayed some awesome performances at the Mesa Classic, which were held on Friday April 15. The Bears had to compete against student-athletes from schools such as the University of Florida, Colorado State University, Arizona State, University of Arizona, University of Mexico and their ACCAC peers. Roshawnda Brown opened the day with a win in the 100-meter hurdles and followed up with a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. Magaly Burciaga ran away with the 1500 meters and finished second in the 800 meters. Cassie Redder and Jaki Shorer ran, jumped and swam to fifth and seventh place in the steeple chase, respectively. Jessica Shank jumped her way to fourth and eighth place finishes in the triple and long jump. Barbara Goe sped to fourth and fifth place finishes in the 200- and 100-meter events. The men's team performances were highlighted by a spectacular second place finish by the 4 x 100-meter relay which was the race of the meet. The 4 x 100-meter relay was the main event of the meet that matched Phoenix College, ranked 13th nationally, and Glendale Community College, ranked 8th in NJCAA. Jourden Holden, coming off of a minor injury, placed third in the high jump. Jaren Parham leaped his way to sixth place in the long jump. In a most exciting match-up, Holden and Mike Smith raced to first and second places in their heat of the 100 meters. Holden won by a hair in a time of 10.90 while Smith ran 10.91. Aaron Gibson sprinted to a second place finish in his heat of the 400 meters and a 9th place finish overall. How about those Good News Bears. What's next for the Bears? The ACCAC Region Championships are next and to be held at Mesa Community College on May 3 and 5.
