Tigers Add 6-7 Forward Kirby to 2005-06 Recruiting Class

Ouachita Tiger basketball coach Charlie Schaef has announced the signing of 6-7 forward George Kirby to an NCAA Division II National Letter of Intent to play for the Tigers beginning in the fall of 2005.

Kirby, a native of Phoenix, Arizona, will transfer to Ouachita from Phoenix College where he averaged 10 points, seven rebounds and just less than two blocks per game. Kirby was name first-team All Region and third-team All-Arizona Community College Athletic conference after leading his team in rebounding and finishing as the second-leading scorer on the team.

Kirby, who will help the Tigers by providing both an inside and outside presence on both ends of the floor, helped his team reach the NJCAA Region I, Division II Championship game by scoring 15 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in the semifinals.

After his sophomore season of 2004-05, Kirby received the Dennis “Mo” Layton Award at Phoenix College as the team’s mot valuable player. Kirby will join a Ouachita team that has put together the best back-to-back records in the program’s recent history and a team that has won 10-plus conference games in each of the last three seasons.

Kirby plans to major in business and is the son of George and Linda Kirby.
