Matt Gordon Named Head Men's Basketball Coach at Phoenix College Phoenix College Director of Athletics Scott Geddis has announced that the Bears have nabbed a rising star in the coaching profession by naming Matt Gordon as the Head Men's Basketball Coach. Gordon, a former NCAA Division I assistant Coach, comes to Phoenix after serving as the Director of Operations for Double Pump Inc. Double Pump Inc. is perhaps the most powerful organization in College Basketball Recruiting. Coach Gordon served as the Director of Player Development and assisted in recruiting in the West Coast Conference at the University Of Portland from 2001-2003. He also spent a year at Dominican University where he helped guide the Penguins to a 12-game increase in victories from the previous year and a spot in the league championship game. Before going to Dominican, Gordon spent a year at Cal State Northridge where he was part of a coaching staff that helped lead the Matadors to their first 20 win season. Coach Gordon graduated from UCLA where he was a Student Assistant for four years. During his tenure at UCLA, the Bruins went to four straight NCAA tournaments, reaching the Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen in two of those years. QUOTES: Gordon talks about his new job, "I am extremely excited to take over the basketball program at Phoenix College. I look forward to making a difference in the lives of all the players that I am privileged enough to coach while I am here at Phoenix College." Gordon talks about the importance of academics and graduation, "It is my job here to make sure that every student-athlete that I coach graduates with his AA, so they can go on to a four-year institution because without their AA they cannot go on and play basketball at the next level if they so desire."
