2004 Phoenix College Baseball Season Outlook

We are very excited about this years team. Our strengths will be on the mound with three of our four starters from last year returning; Jeremy Bents , 6'6" sophomore RHP that was All Region last season, Brett Armour, 6'2" sophomore RHP that has early signed with Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK., and Brian Boyer, a 6'3" RHP that early signed with New Mexico State University. In addition to the strong sophomore staff we have some new faces that we are expecting great things from and with.

We have also improved up the middle with Matt Knobbe, a red shirt freshman shortstop from St. Mary's High School that will be a super leader as well a fireplug in our lineup; Willy Siegrist, a freshman left handed hitting second baseman who will hit not only for average, but also has surprising pop with his bat as well; and in center-field, Danato Giovanatto. Danato is a Freshman that we feel can run, throw, and hit with any other outfielder in the conference and will contribute in a big way to the success of this years team.

Other major contributors to this years team include; Chris Runyon, 6'3", 205 lb sophomore that is one of the many leaders on this team, Joaquin Ortiz, who has also early signed with New Mexico State University, Joey McCarthy, a 6'3" 215 lb third baseman who will be one of our big bats in the lineup, Nick DiPaolo a 6'1" 210lb transfer from Kansas State University that will catch and bring us another stick. Also behind the dish will be Matt Pesch. Matt is a 6'2" freshman that we are expecting huge play from over the next two years. At first base we have two guys that will that have outstanding potential with their bats, Marc Lewis, and Maurice Binns. Marc is a red-shirt freshman that has improved dramatically over the past year both in the field and at the plate, and Maurice is a sophomore transfer from Blackhawk Community College in Illinois. He is 6'4" 235 and has great bat speed to work with as well as his body.

This years squad has great leadership, enthusiasm, and character and as a coaching staff eagerly await a great season.
