NJCAA Honors
Three from
ACCAC with National Honors
When the NJCAA announced the Softball Player of the Week
selections for the week ending April 23rd, the ACCAC again
dominated the nation. Pima's Kelly Nielson took home the Division
I Player of the Week honor while Glendale's Kiko Tamashiro
and Phoenix College's Roxanne Bejarano grabbed the NJCAA Division
II's Player and Pitcher of the Week awards respectively.

NJCAA Division I Player of the Week
Kelly Nielson, Pima College
High School: Sahuaro
Hometown: Tucson, Ariz.
Kelly Nielson, a 5-10 infielder/pitcher from Pima College,
is the NJCAA Division I Softball Player of the Week.
Nielson led Pima to a 3-1 record last week that included
a sweep of #17 Arizona Western (10-1, 8-0) and a split
with the top-ranked team in Division II Phoenix College
(4-3L, 8-0W). On the week Nielson was 6-of-11 (.545)
with four runs scored, four home runs, eight RBI and
two walks. Nielson also pitched against Arizona Western,
allowing one run on five hits and strikout out three.

Kiko Tamashiro , Glendale Community
College
High School: Chinen
Hometown: Okinow, Japan
Kiko Tamashiro, a shortstop from Glendale Community
College, is the NJCAA Division II Softball Player of
the Week. Tamashiro led Glendale to a 3-1 record last
week that included a split with South Mountain (8-0
W, 5-3L) and a sweep of Eastern Arizona (8-4, 5-3).
On the week she was 9-of-14 (.643) with six runs scored,
two doubles, two home runs, four RBI, three walks and
two stolen bases.

Pitcher of the Week
Roxanne Bejarano, Phoenix College
High School: Thatcher
Hometown: Thatcher, Ariz.
Roxanne Bejarano from top-ranked Phoenix College is
the NJCAA Division II Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Bejarano collected two wins last week: 2-0 over Scottsdale
and 4-3 over Pima (ranked sixth in Division I). In 14
innings Bejarano collected 12 strikeouts, gave up six
hits and allowed three runs (one earned). She is 20-3-0
on the season.
