Softball Programs Ranked
in NJCAA Division I National Poll

After dropping to second last week, Pima Community
College (Ariz.) is again the top ranked NJCAA Division I softball
team. After a week in the top spot, Gulf Coast Community College
(Fla.) drops to second this week. Rounding out the top five
are: Central Arizona College, Indian River Community College
(Fla.) and Chattanooga State Technical Community College (Tenn.).
Pima, 46-6, is led at the plate by Lisa Parks
and Erin Slettvet. Parks leads the team in three offensive
categories: batting average (.542, 65-for-120), homeruns (17)
and doubles (18). Slettvet has a team-leading 18 doubles and
77 RBI and is second on the team with 14 homeruns and third
with a .500 batting average (72-for-144). Miliam Romero has
a team-leading 72 runs scored and 53 stolen bases and ranks
fourth, hitting .497 (71-for-143). Ashley Monceaux pulls double-duty
for the Aztecs. At the plate Monceaux has a .516 average (63-for-122),
17 doubles, 13 homeruns and 65 RBI. On the mound she has a
team-leading 1.456 ERA and ranks second with 120 strikeouts.
Nichole Johnson has a team-leading 181 strikeouts and has
collected a 1.750 ERA this season. As a team Pima is hitting
.434 (570-for-1313) and has 430 RBI.
Gulf Coast, 39-5, is led by a trio of players hitting over
.400 this season. Top of the list is Brittany Walters with
a .439 average (58-for-132) and a team-leading 17 doubles.
Next is Joyce Roodenburg, hitting .423 (52-for-123) and collecting
a team-leading 39 RBI. Rounding out the top three is Blythe
Golden with a .415 average (51-for-123). A trio of hurlers
lead the pitching staff for Gulf Coast. Angela Lopez has 100
strikeouts and a .814 ERA, Stacie David has 39 strikeouts
and a .803 ERA and Ginger Reeser has 57 strikeouts and a 1.329
ERA. As a team Gulf Coast is hitting .360 (433-for-1202) and
has 252 RBI.

Chattanooga State (28-5) is back in the top five this week
after dropping to sixth last week. Outfielder Cara Stiles
leads the team in batting average (.509, 54-for-106) and runs
scored (36); catcher Jessi Emery leads the team in runs scored
(36), RBI (61) and homeruns (17); infielder Sherry Hicks and
utility player Lindsey Thomas lead the team in doubles (11
each), Maranda Mounce leads the team in triples (6). Also
hitting .400+ this season are: India Turner (.461, 47-for-102),
Emery (.416, 42-for-101) and Melissa Hendon (.400, 32-for-80).
Hendon is also the team's top pitcher with 127 strikeouts
and a 1.118 ERA. As a team Chattanooga is hitting .378 (348-for-921)
and has 238 RBI.
