The Eastern Arizona College basketball team remained perfect
in ACCAC play Friday night when they went on the road to defeat
Phoenix College 100-79.
EAC struggled early in the contest, especially offensively
against Phoenix's trapping and pressing defense. It wasn't
until just over five minutes remaining in the half that EAC
took the lead for good. Despite 22 first half turnovers EAC
led at the break 42-35. The second half the Gila Monsters
took care of the ball much better committing only six turnovers
which led to 58 points in the games final twenty minutes.
EAC again saw a balanced scoring attack with six players in
double figures led by their two Serbians Nikola Kecman and
Vladimir Bulut who each poured in 20 points. Will Bynum added
16 and Dontae Bryant, Roman Andrade and Markhuri Sanders-Frison
chipped in with 13 apiece. Bynum led the team with 10 rebounds
and Bryant again led the team in assists with six.

made some great shots. He also was strong defensively-more
than he has been in the last few games. We didn't sustain
that energy the rest of the game, and I would've liked to
have seen us do that. It's good to get this win to go into
the holiday break-especially being shorthanded as we were."

In a battle of Top 20 Teams Wednesday night in Thatcher,
AZ it was the 20th ranked Gila Monsters of Eastern Arizona
College who defeated the 17th ranked Matadors of Arizona Western
by the score of 77-51.
Eastern had been plagued by slow starts this season but that
was not the case on Wednesday as they led from wire to wire.
EAC jumped to a quick 16-9 lead seven minutes in and had the
lead to double figures by the midway point of the half. The
margin grew to as many as 15 before Eastern took a 40-28 advantage
into the locker room. The Gila Monster lead never dipped below
ten but AWC continued to hang around until an 8-0 EAC run
pushed the lead to 20 and the Monsters cruised from there.
EAC placed four players in double figures led by Chop Tang's
21 points. Nikola Kecman and Will Bynum each had 13 and Vladimir
Bulut chipped in with 11 including two straight three's in
Eastern's decisive 8-0 second half run. Markhuri Sanders-Frison
had eight second half points to go with ten rebounds and Roman
Andrade had an outstanding game off the bench scoring eight
points and four assists. Eastern struggled from the foul line
connecting on only 10-23 attempts but made up for it from
three as they made half of their 26 attempts from behind the
arc.
EAC (14-1, 7-0) now stands alone in first place in the ACCAC
but will face another tough test on Saturday when they travel
to South Mountain. South comes into the game ranked 9th in
the country in the NJCAA Division II rankings. Game time is
set for 7:30 MST and all of the action can be heard live via

The 20th ranked Eastern Arizona College basketball team saw
their 12 game winning streak snapped Saturday night when they
lost 66-60 at the hands of the 9th ranked Division II South
Mountain Cougars.
The game was a back and forth affair in the first half as
neither team could get untracked on offense. At the break
EAC held a slim 24-22 advantage. South exploded to start the
second half going on a 22-7 run to take a 13 point lead. EAC
chipped away at it but could never get closer to four. Two
straight possessions Eastern had the ball down by four but
came away empty both times and in the end could not continue
their winning streak.
Two EAC players scored in double figures on the night led
by Chop Tang's 16 points. Dontae Bryant added 13 and grabbed
a team high 14 rebounds. Eastern came into the game shooting
53% from the field on the year but shot a season low 23% from
the field and 25% from behind the arc.
Eastern drops to 14-2 overall and 7-1 in the ACCAC. The loss
also drops them out of sole possession of first place and
back into a three way tie. EAC will return home on Wednesday
night when they face Glendale. Game time is set for 7:30 MST
