Five Fall Teams Earn Academic All-American
Honors for Phoenix College

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has announced the Academic All-American Team awards for fall 2004 sports.

Five Phoenix College teams were named Academic All-American Teams -- Women's Cross County, Men's Cross Country, Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer and Volleyball. This represents the highest number of teams named from any one college in the nation.

Of the five, three were name Academic Team of the Year in their respective sport. These teams are Men's Cross Country, Men's Soccer and Volleyball. The Academic Team of the Year honor means that these sports had the highest team GPA of any NJCAA team in the United States in their sport.

The only other Maricopa school, actually the only other Arizona school, having a team named on the list is Paradise Valley with two teams.

"I can't say enough about these hard working student athletes, many with jobs and family responsibilities as well as school and intercollegiate athletics," said Scott Geddis, Phoenix College Director of Athletics. "And the staff and coaches in the PC athletics department are bar none the finest collection of dedicated professionals that you will find in any community college athletic department anywhere, any time."
