Phoenix College offers an opportunity for students who are interested in athletic training to get clinical experience and to take core classes. As a member of the sports medicine team, the student athletic trainer will assist a staff of four certified athletic trainers (ATCs) with practice and game coverage, as well as prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. This then allows the student to transfer to an accredited program.
This program will serve as the entry point to the education of students interested in any number of health care fields. Students interested in careers as athletic trainers, physicians, physical therapists, EMTs or other allied health care professions are encouraged to apply.
We offer an athletic training course and most importantly clinical opportunities. Students work directly with our Athletic Training staff treating all student athletes. This program is used as a gateway to accredited athletic training programs (4 year programs) or to other health care professions. Students get a lot of hands on experience and learning. Students can begin working with us at any time, you just need to submit an application first and then meet with us.
This is a great opportunity to get plenty of hands on experience. We do offer a course in the spring, HES 271 Prevention and Treatment of Athletic Injuries. Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries teaches students about common sports injuries, how to treat and prevent them. The student will also learn about general diseases and illnesses, emergency care, taping, bracing, and about therapeutic modalities. We have an application for those interested to fill out.
This is not an accredited program. It is a means for students to become an athletic trainer you need to attend and complete an accredited 4-year program. Check out this website for more info: http://www.nata.org/student/education.htm
