Studio/Fine Art Curriculum

Drawing I & II and Life Drawing I & II

The objective in these courses is to move from a simple description of objects or the human figure (its texture, weight, volume and visual movement) to more complex relationships. The emphasis is on developing observation and composition skills. A variety of drawing media are used and individual creativity is encouraged.

Ceramic / Sculpture / Lost Wax Casting (Jewelry Design)

The three-dimensional curriculum of the art department includes a wide variety of clay and sculpture experiences. Equipment includes foundry, raku and kiln possibilities. An attempt is made to create a wide range of media expressions.

Two and Three-Dimensional Design

In these courses the objective is to develop sensitivity to form and space by using the elements and principles of design. Class experiences are organized to develop an awareness of design thinking and creative two-dimensional or three-dimensional solutions to various media problems.

Painting and Watercolor

Individuals are introduced to the materials and subjects possible in painting. Composition, paint handling and color are emphasized. Students are encouraged to join in discussions and take field trips to help expand their perspective of painting and watercolor.

Color

This course is an inquiry into color principles as they apply to contemporary problems of color in design. Students investigate color systems and their design applications.
