The Devil, (Satan, Lucifer, Beelzebub, Mephistopheles) has the nickname of "Old Nick," but he's no relation to Santa. "Satan" means "adversary" or "accuser" in Hebrew. He came to personify all that stood against God's will. He is sometimes called "the Old Deceiver," and the moniker "Old Nick" seems to parallel this sense, "nick" being a slang word in English for "cheat" or "defraud." The name "Santa" is from "saint" < sanctus, ("holy one" in Latin). Whereas Santa's North Pole conjures up the idea of the Earth's point nearest to heaven, Satan is associated with the underworld and darkness   (Mephistopheles comes from Greek for "he who loves not the light").
