PREREQUISITES:   A grade of ‘C ‘or better in (MAT150/151 or MAT152 and MAT182) or MAT187 or     

                                   equivalent, or satisfactory score on the District placement exam.

 

TEXT: Calculus, Early Transcendental Functions, 4th edition

            Student Solutions Guide (highly recommended)

            Graphing Calculator: TI-89 or TI-92 plus (will be used in class), or TI-92 or TI-83 plus

            3 floppy disks (Maple labs)

           

OFFICE HOURS:  MWF   10:00-11:00 am       TR   12:15-1:15 pm                   

                                   

ATTENDANCE: You are expected to attend each class and be on time.  Attendance will be checked each day.   

                            You will receive 10 bonus points at the end of the semester if you do not miss more than

                             three classes.  Excessive absences may result in your being withdrawn from the class.

                              However, DO NOT assume the instructor will initiate the withdrawal if you decide to drop

                             the class by not attending, or else you may receive the grade you earned up to that point as 

                             your final grade.

                            Please note that the LAST DAY WITHDRAWALS ARE ACCEPTED IS MON. NOV 26.

           

HOMEWORK:  After each section is discussed in class, you should write up and turn in the assignment from

the syllabus for that section.  Your homework should be neat and well organized.  It is judged

on completeness and correctness of the solutions as well as appearance.  The homework is                  

  graded solely upon your performance on one or more “randomly” selected problem(s) from   

  assignment  for that section on a 0 to 4 point basis.  NO late homework accepted.

                          You should expect to spend 3 hours or more outside of class for each hour in class.

 

MAPLE LAB: After each topic is discussed in class, a lab material will be distributed and you need to use Maple

                         software (available in the Math lab or can be purchased from the Dept.) to work out the problems.

Your lab report should be neat and well organized.  It is judged on completeness and correctness

of the solutions as well as appearance.  NO late lab report accepted.

           

MAKE-UP: NO make-ups are allowed for any quizzes and tests.   However, if you must miss a scheduled

                    test, then a percentage score from the FINAL EXAM will replace the first test you miss and

                    a score of ZERO will be given to any tests missed thereafter.

                   Test dates will be announced in class in advance.

            90% - 100% = A                       65% - 79%   = C
