BACKGROUND

I have been a biology professor at Phoenix College since 1984. I love teaching biology and I have experience teaching many different biology topics. My love for marine biology was kindled early in my life when my grandfather introduced me to marine life on the shores of Long Island, New York. I have studied marine biology ever since and have experience in the field on the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and Pacific coasts of the United States. During the course of my studies, I have earned degrees from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and the University of Southern California. As a graduate student I carried out research projects in tropical marine ecology in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico. Since then, I've focused my attention on the coral reefs of the Caribbean, Hawaii, and Australia. Every summer I bring groups of students into the field to teach them about marine organisms. I am an avid nature photographer and SCUBA diver and I love to include these activities in my field classes.
