Mission
and Goals
Teaching
& Learning Community
for
Pre-Professionals
|
The Teaching and Learning Community for Pre-Professionals
is based on instructors collaborating to form a consistent multidisciplinary
environment in BIO181/182 and CHM 151/152. It aims to improve
the teaching of biology and chemistry course concepts to students
with pre-professional majors. The four required courses are
the first college-level science courses taken by this group
of about 200 students per year and successful completion is
an important step toward successful attainment of a University
degree. Instructors will identify common competencies, share
and create course materials, and “guest lecture”
in each other’s courses to help students learn major concepts.
These concepts will be reinforced, explored, and linked via
the instructors in all sections of the four courses. Diagnostics
and targeted assignments will be used to assess student retention
of concepts. The overall degree of success will be measured
by comparing the numbers of students successfully completing
the four courses before and after implementation. |
