Elena's First Impressions of Queensland, Australia

Lance feeds the lorikeets on our balcony in Cannonvale

We arrived in Australia on Sunday 6/11. Right outside the Brisbane airport we encountered a flock of parrots. Not something you see in Phoenix! After a short flight to Townsville, we drove to our hotel and on the way saw more unusual birds. Also at lunch, where I would expect to find grackles, hovering at the outdoor Café, looking for leftovers, we instead saw Tahitian Minah birds and Magpies. It’s a strange sensation after feeling comfortable with the common birds at home, to now encounter new birds at every turn. The following day at The Billabong Sanctuary, we were introduced to some other local inhabitants, among them, lorikeets, most likely the parrots from the first day.

Lance also had a new experience, trying out the local version of pool (billiards). The pockets, cues and balls were all much smaller, and why are there only three different colored balls? He still managed to win a game or two.
