Lesson 2 - Dynamic Activities of Cells

Introduction

"In this lesson you will see that cells are constantly converting one form of energy into another. The preferred form of energy is found in the bonds of ATP, the energy currency of the cell. The energy carried by ATP is used to carry out cellular work."

Getting Started "This lesson summarizes some of the key aspects of how cells operate. It introduces how proteins in cells catalyze reactions and transport substances."

Focus on Learning

Use the course competencies listed below to focus your learning and use the lesson objectives to sharpen that focus.

Competencies By the end of the lesson , you should be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the basic chemistry fundamentals involved in the structure and life processes of living things.
  2. Analyze the processes of cellular metabolism and the related energy transformations, organic molecules and cell structures.

Objectives

To master the competencies, you should seek to understand how:

  1. Living things transform energy.
  2. Enzymes speed chemical rections.
  3. The plasma membrane has many and various functions.
  4. The plasma membrane regulates the passage of molecules into and out of cells.
