Residential
Faculty
I was born and
raised in Barcelona (Spain) where I received my MS and PhD from the
Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona; I then was awarded with a postdoctoral
fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Education to conduct research
in the United States. In 1994, I joined the laboratory of Prof. Robert
Holmgren at Northwestern University (Evanston, IL) as a Postdoctoral
Fellow; my work there was focused on genes that specify neuronal fate
in Drosophila (fruitfly). In 1997, I continued research on
Drosophila neurogenic genes and transcription factors at The
University of Iowa College of Medicine, where I worked as a Postdoctoral
Fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Wayne Johnson. I came to Arizona in
1998, and started teaching as an Adjunct Faculty for Chandler-Gilbert
Community College. I joined Phoenix College in the Fall of 2001 as a
Residential Faculty.
My teaching areas
are General Biology for Majors (BIO 181, BIO 182), and Biotechnology
for Non-Majors (BIO 107, Introduction to Biotechnology) and Majors (BIO
247, Applied Biosciences: Biotechnology), a course intended to prepare
students for internships in bioscience and biomedical research labs.
