S-STEM Scholarship Application Information for
Spring 2012

The S-Stem Scholarship program is intended for students who
are interested in majoring in Biology, Chemistry or Mathematics. This program will provide scholarship
assistance of up to $3,500/semester
and can be renewed (through a re-application process) for up to 4
semesters. In addition to financial
assistance, this program will provide access to mentorship and internship
experiences.
Basic
Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must be seeking
a degree or career in the areas of Biology, Chemistry or Mathematics (AS, AAS,
AGEC, MAPP, BA, BS)
ð Major has
to be declared with Phoenix College Advisement as the plan being an Associate
in Science degree or Transfer to Bachelor Degree Program
ð Note that
the following are examples of ineligible
majors: Bioengineering , Engineering, Allied Health, Medical Lab Science
Nursing, Pharmacy, Pre Med, Dental Hygiene, Forensic Pathology , Health Info
Administration and Math Secondary Ed

Support Coordinator

Applicants must be full
time students at Phoenix College – 12 or
more credit hours at Phoenix College
·
Applicants must have an
overall grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
·
Applicants must meet the
prerequisite for MAT150, 151 or 152 (satisfactory score on District Placement
Exam OR completion of MAT120, 121 or 122 with a “C” or better)
ð Provide print out of satisfactory placement exam from Phoenix College
Testing Center with application OR transcript showing course completion
·
Applicants must complete the 2012-2013 FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov) - please
include the FAFSA PDF confirmation page only (1-2 sheet document)
·
Applicants must be willing to participate in either an
internship or an alternative cohort experience (to be approved by the Program
Director) that reflects their academic goals.
Desired
Applicant Qualifications (optional):
·
Volunteer, work or
internship experience relevant to your field of study.
·
A strong course background
in Mathematics and Science.
·
Excellent written and
oral communication skills.
Recipient
Benefits:
·
Scholarship recipients will work with a Faculty Mentor
in their subject area.
·
Scholarship recipients may have the opportunity to
complete a paid internship working closely with scientists to design and
complete a research project (separate application) - hourly rate starts at
$9.25.
