Current PC Recycling Practices

We currently recycle a variety of paper: white and all colored paper, computer print outs, mailings, envelopes with plastic windows, Post-It notes, file folders, phone books (Staples and Paper Clips OK)., please check out the Web site, http://www.pc.maricopa.edu/Biology/PC_Green/PaperRecycle.pdf. We also recycle cardboard boxes and receive a small compensation, so please be sure to have your empty boxes picked up for recycling. PC Grounds also recycles oil, florescent lights, wood palletes, old appliances, batteries, and waste metal. An enhanced recycling program to include plastic and aluminum will be introduced in the Spring 2008 semester. More details to follow.

Computer Myths and Facts

Myth #1: Turning off my computer is bad for my computer - Wrong!

Fact: The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory states that modern hard disks are not affected by frequent shut-downs and that equipment may actually last longer because mechanical wear and heat stress are reduced.

Action: Turn off your computer during the night!

Savings: If all students at Tufts University turned off their computers at night for 6 hours, it would prevent 572 tons of CO2 from heating the atmosphere each year and save over $87,000 in electricity costs!

Security Benefit: When your turn your computer off you decrease the risk of someone accessing your files or e-mail.

 Count the Bottles
Click on the following web site to find out how many bottles are NOT being recycled,  www.container-recycling.org/general/minicounter.htm. Next semester PC will be contributing to increasing the amount of plastic bottles that WILL BE recycled.
