Earn NJCAA Honors

The WSFL saw two of its student-athletes earn NJCAA Football honors following the first week of play in the 2005 season. Phoenix College's Azaad Muhammad earned the National Offensive Player of the Week while New Mexico Military's Trent Whitmill was selected the NJCAA's Defensive Player of the Week.

Muhammad, a 5-8, 180-pound freshman running back made quite a splash on the collegiate scene. In his first-ever college game, the Phoenix native ran all over the Phoenix defense. Muhammad rushed for 231 yards on 24 carries, including one run for 54 yards. He collected two touchdowns to lead the Bears to a 55-30 win.

Whitmill, a 5-11, 195-pound linebacker led the Broncos to a 33-14 win over Hardin Simmons University. He collected five solo tackles and had one tackle assist. Whitmill also completed three sacks for a total of 25 yards.
