
Patient Care Technician Program
Program Description
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) Program provides education and training for employment in hospitals and some outpatient settings. Skills gained include phlebotomy, glucose monitoring and other testing, electrocardiogram, urinary catheterization, sterile dressings and more. A certificate is awarded for successful program completion. The applicant must have a current/valid Nursing Assistant Certificate from the state of Arizona to apply for the program.
Employment Outlook
Because healthcare is the second largest industry in the United States, the role of the patient care technician continues to evolve and expand. The position also is a pathway to nursing and physician assisting. Job opportunities are good.
Program Cost
The cost of the is approximately $500, including tuition, books, lab and externship fees.
Program Schedule and Length
Program completion takes 10 weeks. Students attend classes all day Mondays and Tuesdays for five weeks before participating in two externships:
- Phlebotomy externship in an outpatient lab
- Patient Care Technician externship 64 hours at a local hospital
REGISTRATION PROCESS

Step 1:
Obtain required immunizations or produce valid records (click for locations and cost). Obtain healthcare provider or professional rescuer level CPR certification.
Step 2:
Make a registration appointment by calling a Healthcare Advisor, at (602) 285-7110. or come into the advisement office and be sure to bring the following to your appointment:

If you have not previously taken a course at Phoenix College, complete the Student Information Form and submit it to the Admissions and Records Office.
Step 4:
Pay tuition and fees before the deadline to avoid being dropped.
