Program Description
The Phlebotomy Certificate Program is designed to prepare students to obtain blood specimens by skin puncture or venipuncture using proper technique on adults, children and infants. Students in the Phlebotomy Program will be in contact with potentially infections blood, tissues, and body fluids. Formal application is required for acceptance in the program.

Employment Outlook
Phlebotomists may find employment in reference laboratories, hospitals, insurance companies, outreach services, patient service centers, research facilities, donor centers and physician’s offices. The career opportunities are varied and many. The salaries range from $9.50 to $13.00 per hour.
Program Cost
The cost of the program is approximately $680, which includes all courses, lab fees and clinical experience. Textbooks are an additional $50 dollars. If the prerequisites courses must be taken, an additional $100 in textbooks will be required.
Program Schedule and Length
The Phlebotomy Certificate requires 4 credits of prerequisite classes and 3.5 credits of program classes for a total of 7.5 credits. There are 80 hours of clinical experience required. The clinical hours must be completed during the day. Clinical sites are available throughout the valley. Clinical experience or practicum does not start until after successful completion of HCE 109, Basic Venipuncture.
Licensure Process
Students who successfully complete the program receive a certificate of completion from the college. Upon satisfactory completion of the Phlebotomy Program, students are qualified to take a national certification exam.
